64-bit USB to UART drivers available now

Just in case you missed it: Silicon Labs (SiLabs) now offers a 64-bit driver version for its CP210x USB to UART bridge virtual COM port. These chips are found in quite a few GPS loggers, e.g. the Holux M-241. The latest version also contains a few fixes:

Corrected Kernel Panic in Snow Leopard which would randomly occur after
transmission
Modified DTR pin to toggle on open and close instead of on insertion
Modified driver to load without showing the Network Connection Dialog
Modified driver to allow toggling of RTS and DTR pins
Added 64 bit support for Snow Leopard

So if you’re running Snow Leopard in 64-bit kernel mode, head over to SiLabs website and download the new driver.

Mac doesn’t auto-sleep anymore, hard disks too

Lately, my Mac was having two weird problems.
First, it didn’t go to sleep after the amount of time set in Energy Manager anymore. In fact, it only went to sleep if either I pressed the sleep button on the case or selected the sleep menu entry in the top left Apple-icon menu.

The second problem was that unused hard disks didn’t go to sleep anymore. If I manually ejected an unused hard disk it only went to sleep for a short time. After about 30 seconds I could hear the disk spin up again. Well, obviously something I installed on the Mac was preventing it from going to sleep properly.
