How to merge/combine/join multiple .mp4 videos on the Mac

I have a whole bunch of photography tutorials I converted from Flash video format (.flv) to .mp4 so I can watch them on my iPad. Since those tutorials are broken down into a myriad of .mp4 episodes it makes it much harder to watch them in the right order. I needed to find a way to merge several episodes into large movies. This is where Squared 5’s MPEG StreamClip for Mac comes in handy. While this free video conversion tool allows you to convert alls sorts of video formats to .mp4, it also allows you to merge multiple .mp4 videos. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Launch MPEG StreamClip
  2. Drag n’ drop multiple .mp4 videos to the blue dots. The videos are merged in the order they’re dropped onto the application. Usually, my videos have a number prefix like 01.mp4, 02.mp4, 03.mp4 so I’m able to drop them in that order all at once.
  3. Go to File -> Save as and select a target name for your merged movie and the type MP4
  4. You’re done!

  1. You may also try iDealshare VideoGo to join MP4 files into one on Mac or Windows.

Besides merging MP4, it also can join video files of any format like merge AVI, MPEG, MPG, VOB, MOV, RM, RMVB, 3GP, ASF, WMV, WTV, DVR, DivX, Xvid, M4V, MKV, FLV, F4V, SWF, WebM, OGV, Apple ProRes, AVCHD, MTS, M2TS, M2T, MXF, MVI, DAT, MOD, TOD, MPV, OGM and etc

  2. Thousand apologies. Save as .mov does NOT work. Only the first file has audio while the rest do not.

  3. For those having audio issue, save it as .mov or use “export as” to .mp4. Both worked for me though it would have been nicer ‘direct’.

  4. I have the same issue as the other people of no audio after the merge.
I wanted to join a video because my computer stopped recording and I want only one file.

But if you guys want to play multiple videos simultaneously in different playlists I recommend you guys an application called “Multi-Video Playlists” for the iPad and iPhone.

  5. Hi there!

Thanks for the help with the program. I just have one question: When I merge multiple mp4 video files together into one bigger one, I lose the audio when I later open it in Quicktime or VLC – any suggestions?
    What can I do?!

    Thanks a million!
